Sunshine Industries provides short-term vocational training and long-term sheltered employment to individuals with intellectual disabilities. Work includes light industrial subcontract jobs for local businesses, as well as a metal shop where commodities are manufactured for the federal government. Jobs consist of packaging, collating, simple assembly, labeling, operating machinery, spot welding and material handling. Employees are paid on a piece rate or hourly basis while they learn job skills and develop good work habits, with an emphasis placed on production and quality control. Individuals develop self-confidence, independence and a sense of accomplishment.
